7 of 7 - A Life of Science: Lynn Margulis Opens the Gaian Era

Dear Earthlings:

you've faithfully followed this series to finally arrive at the beginning.  The two snapshots of this week are part of the symposium's intro.  Who was Lynn Margulis?  With whom can we compare her?  Many names of great significance came up, including Galileo, Copernicus, Darwin, and Humboldt.  But most of all she was free.  She thought with her own head and she was fearless.  And she was fortunate enough to be in a time and place where the potential of her being could be actualized.  And she was wise enough to stay in that space of freedom even when conforming would have been easier.  That's why those comparisons are well deserved.  Authentic science is not science-for-profit, and it doesn't come easy, yesterday as today.  But the mind is a wonderful machine and life a great experiment.  And if you've come so far in this mini journey, perhaps you've developed an appreciation for Lynn Margulis and her view of evolution.  Remember it's very simple.  If the Gaia hypothesis is true, every time you feel like helping someone, every time that impulse to help gets a hold of you, every time you share resources, every time you're frugal, every time you're generous, every time you take care of an ecosystem near you, you're simply acting according to nature and are helping the process of evolution one itty bit step further.  Isn't that nice?

James Walker introduces Lynn s friend, professor of "hallucinogenic plants."  Did Lynn "know" nature in the "Biblical sense, I mean from experience?  That's a good thing for a scientist, no?

Peter Westbroeck of Leiden University in Holland hails Lynn Margulis as a modern day Copernicus.

Dear Earthlings:

Education is the heart of democracy.  And that includes education to love.  It comes in many forms.  Including learning about Lynn Margulis, the role of collaboration in evolution, and Gaia theory.

Did you enjoy the post?  Let us know!  Yours truly appreciates your attention.  The comments box is open.

Come back!  And stay tuned for more wonders.

Ecosexy Updates from 3WayKiss: Join Us Online, in Portland, and Big Apple City

Eco Clit, courtesy of Mocha
Dear Earthlings,

here at 3WayKiss things are happening so fast that we barely have time to think.  But we can't wait to let you know what's jelling up and how you can participate.

The Ecosexual Movement is swerving in the social media and the biosphere is beginning to feel it.

EcoSex Summit.  Anyone can participate in this.  Just activate your digital system.  John Overton and Yours Truly interviewed for the EcoSex Summit, a series of conversations with EcoSex voices produced by Farhana Goga and Alan Styrdom in Cape Town.  We explain how to bring ecosex into your personal and planetary life and the benefits of it.  What's the PostaHouse project and how does it relate to the ecosexual vision?  Find out from the Interview.  It is accessible, free of charge, until Thursday, May 24, at 4 PM.  Don't forget to sign up for updates and "like" the Facebook page.  More previews coming soon.  The series of 18 interviews will be for sale when the Summit is complete.

EcoSex Symposium.  Portland, OR, June 29-July 1st.  This one does require traveling and for those who like that it will be a memorable full-immersion experience in the creation of ecosexuality, what it means, why it needs to exist, what it can do for people, the planet, our amorous lives, our sexual expression, and the relationship with our most compersive lover, third planet Earth or Gaia.

It's now time too sign up, donate, get perks, and volunteer!  You can do this all in one stop: HERE!  Check out the exciting keynotes and workshops.  What's Yours Truly's title?  "Ecosexuality: The New Orgasmic Revolution on Plant Earth."  Exciting?  There's much more!  "Fluid Bonding," "The Pleasure of the Other," are some of Yours Truly's themes.  And many others will facilitate and teach.  "Saving the Earth is sexy," as organizer Gabriella Cordova explains.  Ecosexuality embraces life fully.  Sign up for the whole thing or event by event.  We will launch a book project and you can submit your contribution!  From out of town?  Ask for assistance with housing.  All details, contacts,  guidelines here.  The place to be!   Oh, and for those inclined to express ourselves as wordsmiths, there will be a call for contributions to an anthology of miscellaneous writing about the ecosexual experience.  Access the Call for Papers here!

Next are reminders for Bi/Lammy events in New York City.  Is the big apple ecosexual?  Taste the forbidden fruit and tell me!  In any event, we are meeting for the "biggest bi culture event of the year in NYC."  Bi Lines.  On Sunday, June 3rd, at 6:00 PM.  Catch all the details, program, presenters, attendees.  Get a ticket and mark yourself as attending here!

Or, show up on the corresponding Facebook Event.  Only $ 8.00 at the door.  The Nuyorican Poets Cafe is waiting for you! At 236 East 3rd Street, NY 10009.  Tel (212) 780-9386.  Meet Mirta Garcia visiting from Puerto Rico and other friends.  And learn all about the latest bi books, including Yours Truly's Bisexuality and Queer Theory

Next is the big night for Lammy finalists.  We're all winners.  But who actually gets to take home the distinction?  Who do I root for when Justin Bond, Susie Bright are finalists too?  Suspense, suspense . . . And all is revealed at the Lammy Awards.  Monday, June 4th.  Find out all details in the Press Release.  Join us for the ceremony.  It's a bit expensive.  But it's great to become a donor for Lambda and all of LGBTQ Literature.  Without our imagination, what would we be?  Puppets.  Mere tools.  It's art that makes us real.  Ecosexual art that is.  Love, the ecology of life, is the art that makes life beautiful. The Awards are at 6:00 PM at CUNY Graduate Center, Proshansky Auditorium (365 5th Avenue, NY 10016).  The Gala at nearby Slate (54 West 21st, NY 10010) follows at 9:30 pm.  Come out for the big night in New York City.  You deserve it.  Life is beautiful!
Get your tickets here and become part of the big ecosexy apple's literary scene.

Cranac, Adam & Eve
Yours Truly is gifting herself with a Residency in Brooklyn.  St Andrews Plaza.  May 27-June 25.  In preparation for the big year of research as Fellow at U Conn, 2012-13.  For more info about that, see the Press Release.  Wish me well with this breakthrough project.  I will be sorting out things, looking for housing, car, other needs.  Seeing old friends, making new ones.  Participating in events, lectures, conferences, debates, parties.  Learning.  Experiencing.

There are many apples in New York City, one more ecosexy than the other.  Cranac knew it. Can you see?  Connect with me.  We might explore together.

Tantra Meal
Ecosex is jelling up also in Western Puerto Rico.  Tantra comes to Gaia's Temple on Playa Azul thanks to Allen McPhee and Laurie Handlers.  We are dancing with the waves, practicing sacred sex, and enjoying tantra meals.  More events in July.  A beloved local community.  Stay tuned!

Let me complete with two tips for online stores of ecosexual products that can make your sex life healthier and more fun.  Ecosex and Good Clean Love come well recommended by Tinamarie Bernard, legendary modern love muse.

Remember: life is beautiful.  Expand your love and you'll feel it.  Love, the ecology of life, is the art of sharing the most compersive lover we have, third planet Gaia.  Love yourself in another today, and you'll do your part.

Your attention is appreciated.  Thanks for reading.  We hope to bring offerings of your choosing.  You are loved.  Join us in what is accessible to you!

Volunteers Needed
We need volunteers. Please have your friends and associates connect with Teri Ciacchi, Volunteer Coordinator, to get involved. If you have a friend who would like to see your presentation for free, recruit them to be the onsite workshop door person for your presentation. Volunteer positions will be listed on the Volunteer tab on our website. Volunteer “perks” can include full conference packets (valued at $169) if volunteers can document they have done 5-10 hours of work weekly between now and July 2. 6 of 7 - A Life of Science: Lynn Margulis Opens the Gaian Era

Dear Earthlings:

two important posts this week.  They came at the beginning of the conference about Lynn Margulis, from her son and co-author of many books and from one of her students.   They bring tidings of other avatars of Gaia theory and of what this all means when it comes to schools, textbooks, and children.

Dorion Sagan, Lynn's older son, reads an essay sent over by James Lovelock.  Gaia is the shared theory, Lovelock's macrocosm perspective offers the view from above, from the firmament where the third planet is visible.  Lynn's microcosmic perspective offers the view from below, from the microbes, the cells, the molecules that make us feel alive when we pinch them.  As above so below.  That's the proof that Gaia theory is meaningful.

Emily Case vows to "liberate Lynn s ideas from the 'box' and move them to the mainstream text."  A science teacher formed at the school of Lynn Margulis, she agrees that research and teaching come together when the laboratory of life is one's classroom.  Symbiogenesis is when a cell enters another cell and becomes its nucleus.  It's a form of collaboration that resulted in the first big leap of evolution.  Now it's in a box, because the main narrative of evolution is Darwinian: it all happened because of competition.  When there is a critical mass behind Gaia theory, collaboration will be the main narrative of evolution, with competition as a footnote: the error resulting from a failure to cooperate with the natural way of doing things.
Perhaps some day kids will come home from school and say: "Mom, pop, today I learned that without collaboration life would not exist.  It was discovered by Lynn Margulis and James Lovelock.  Before them, the opposite was believed.  People were nasty and rude.  Now we know better.  How can I help you this afternoon?"

5 of 7 - A Life of Science: Lynn Margulis Opens the Gaian Era

Dear Earthlings:

how difficult it is for a genius to be appreciated in her homeland.  Often what we do reverberates far away and then comes back to us as the appreciation our neighbors would never give.  This also happened to Lynn Margulis.

She interpreted the nucleated cell as a major leap in evolution, one that happens by collaboration.  Her taxonomy of species reflects this.  Many thought she was just disobedient.  After all why make a new taxonomy when one already exists?  Science is just habit, run-of-the-mill stuff, no?

She also looked up scientists from the Soviet Union who had great ideas without the means to prove them.  She translated them and designed experiments to test these ideas.  Many thought she did not give proper credit and was not original.  After all, what comes from the Soviet Union is always suspicious, right?  Science is just an American way to reinvent the wheel, no?

Antonio Lazcano, from the Universidad Autonoma de Mexico, explains this, including how unfair it is to make these insinuations against Lynn Margulis.  How this parochial blindness only succeeds in keeping people in the United States ignorant about the value of her contributions.

Antonio Lazcano: Lynn's taxonomy of species reflected her complex view of life and the biosphere.

Antonio Lazcano: Lynn made her predecessors known, proved their hypotheses by tests, and had their papers translated into English. Many of them were evolution scientists from Russia who emphasized symbiosis over selection collaboration over competition, which had been Darwin's main point.

Education is the heart of democracy.  And that includes education to love.  It comes in many forms.  Including learning about Lynn Margulis, the role of collaboration in evolution, and Gaia theory.
